to his appointment with the Ansal Institute
of Technology, Dr. Jagpal Singh was working
as Associate Prof. (Physics) and Head, Basic
Science in Institute of Technology & Management
(I.T.M.) Gurgaon, since April 1998. He was
Vice President of Enchante Jewellery Ltd.,
Gurgaon, from Feb 1994 to March 1998, where
he has established the state of art Modern
Jewellery plant by using Laser Technology.
He worked in Haryana State Electronics Development
Corp[. (HARTRON), Chandigarh from Oct. 1981
to Feb. 1994 in various capacities including
General Manager (R&D). In HARTRON, he has
headed a R&D centre namely Instrument Design
Development & Facilities Centre (IDDC), Ambala
Cantt. From Oct. 1984 to Feb. 1994. in various
positions. This project was established with
UNDP/UNIDO funding by Hartron. In Ambala,
he had developed various optical instruments
(14 Nos.) for optical industries. One of the
product "Guidoscope - A unit Magnification
Telescope with 50o field of view", developed
for DRDO, Huderabad for monitoring the projectory
of missiles, have been patented. He was also
awarded in 1991 by NRDC Republic Day Award
for the same product. He received UNIDO fellowship
(Jan. 1984 to Oct. 1984) for advance training
in optical technology in Germany, UK and Holland.
He was born on 1st June 1948. He obtained
his B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. Physics from University
of Delhi and M.Tech. (Applied Optics) and
Ph.D. from I.I.T. Delhi, subsequently he worked
as a Research Associate at the AIIMS for a
project on development of Low Vision Optical
Aid for partially blind persons in 1979. He
has also served as Technical Manager (Optics)
in Harvin Optics Ltd., Hyderabad, from Jan.
1979 to Oct. 1981. He has taken up consultancy
work in the area of Optical Technology in
Industries as well as with UNIDO/UNDP projects
in Damascus, Syria (1989) and Sofia, Bugaria
(1993). Besides attending a umber of seminars
and conferences he has published 15 research
papers in leading National and International
Journals. He has also received professional
training in optics system design & technology
in Hungary and application of laser in Gem
& Jewellery Industries in Italy.
His current area of interest is in the development
of various educational kits in Laser & fibre
optics and application of laser in Industries.
In addition to the Optical Society of India,
he is a life member of the Indian Laser Association
and International Society of Optics Engineers
